Civitavechia is your port of call for touring Rome, Vatican and Rome countryside. Civitavecchia town is not a tourist attraction so you will be heading directly to your sightseeing destinations. Rome and Vatican sightseeing is your first choice if you had never been to Rome before. The splendid city, a blend of artistic and architectural masterpieces, classical ruins and extravagant baroque churches and piazzas is a 90 minute drive from Civitavecchia pier. Roman countryside offers many choices for those who know Rome. Ostia Antica ruins and splendid Etruscan excavations of Cerveteri are only 30 minutes drive. Picturesque hill towns of Orvieto, Viterbo and Bagnoreggio take an hour to reach from Civitavecchia. More time is needed to explore Umbria with its famous town of Assisi.
Hiring the team of the driver and personal guide is the best option where time is limited and sights so many. Self guided tours with driver only are good options if you know what to see and had done your homework. Taking a train from Civitavecchia and meeting your guide in Rome for a walking tour is another good option for budget minded traveller. |
